Nature Trails in Carleton Place

 

Anthony Curro Park

Location: Mississippi Quays subdivision
This scenic nature trail takes you right alongside the river.

 

Hendry Farm Park

Location: Preston Drive
A great walk that children will enjoy, including a playground and swings!

 

Mississippi River Walk

Location: This nature trail runs from Princess Street to Anthony Curro Park.
This is Nature Trail 1 on the Self-Guided Walking Tour. Follow the trail to learn about Smiths Falls limestone, the Hackberry trees, and finish by viewing beautiful Arklan Island. This trail is perfect for the history buff, or anyone wanting to learn a bit more about our town's unique location. Enjoy the smells, sights and sounds of the Mississippi River.

 

Riverside Trail

This is Nature Trail 2 on the Self-Guided Walking Tour. Discover the historic Carleton Place Canoe Club, learn about the downtown, and finish up at the scenic Town boat launch.



 

 

The Rotary Centennial Trail

Entrance: The end of Maple Lane (off of William Street)

Enjoy this 7km stroll along the Mississippi that connects the village of Appleton to Carleton Place. This trail lets out at the junction of Hillcrest Drive and River Road in Appleton. This trail showcases the varied landscapes beside the Mississippi River.

The Beckwith Trail

Entrance: At the end of McNeely Ave (behind the TD Bank)

The trail takes you to the 9th Line in Beckwith, leading to the Beckwith Recreational Park. The trail consists of three different parts; the McGregor branch that leads from Carleton Place to the 10th line, then the Shady Branch that takes from the 10th line to the 9th line, then the CJ Branch that leads to the Beckwith Recreational Park.

 

Trans-Canada Trail

Entrance: On Cavanagh Road (off of McNeely Avenue)

The Trans Canada Trail is a proposed 18, 078 km recreational corridor, winding its way through every province and territory, linking 800 communities en route. Our local section can be found at the intersection of McNeely Ave and Coleman St. The first break in the trail is at Appleton Side Road.

1 Bridge Street
You never know what you’ll find in the shops and restaurants on Bridge Street! An eclectic mix of shops and services make up our downtown core! Throw in some amazing restaurants and you’ve got a winning combo!
2 Riverside Park
Take advantage of the beautiful Riverside Park! With its sandy beach and amazing splash pad you’re sure to stay cool during the summer! Riverside Park also has a beautiful trail and shady trees, a great place for a picnic! It’s also the home of the oldest flat water Canoe Club in Canada! Check out some of our other parks as well.
3 Canadian Co-Operative Wool Growers
142 Franktown Rd
Betcha you didn’t know that almost 3 million pounds of wool arrive in Carleton Place for grading every year. It’s true! Go and take a look! There’s even a museum where you can learn about the different sheep! Once you’re done, you can check out all of the great merchandise at The Real Wool Shop!
4 Carleton Place & Beckwith Heritage Museum (formerly the Victoria School Museum)

Step inside and be amazed! The Carleton Place & Beckwith Heritage Museum holds all the answers to your questions on our local history. Learn how the early settlers of CP lived and find out more about its first inhabitants! Once you’re done touring the museum step outside and check out their labyrinth and gardens!
5 Let’s Get Some Exercise
There are over 5 walking trails in Carleton Place! From the Riverside Trail to the Hendry Farm Park, we have trails for everyone! Walking, biking or even roller blading! Want more information? 7 An Evening of Theatre…
Music, Dance, Drama on Stage! The Mississippi MUDDS is a local amateur theatre that puts on amazing shows that are held in the Town Hall Auditorium! Take in a show featuring local performers! The Mississippi MUDDS are known throughout the Valley for their stellar performances. They also put on murder mystery dinners. They are always accepting new members! The Mississippi MUDDS also host Youth Theatre Workshops!
8 Or a Night of Hockey!

If the theatre isn’t for you, then head on over to the Carleton Place Arena to watch the Carleton Place Canadians battle it out on the ice! The games are guaranteed to be action-packed fun! The arena also has public skating from August to April! If the summer heat gets to be too much, just strap on the skates and take ’em for a joy ride!
9 Heritage Carleton Place
The Town Hall, built in the 1800s, demands attention! With it’s big bold doors and its incredible stone work, its a building to be admired. Don’t just stop at the Town Hall, discover all of the heritage buildings in CP - our walking tour highlights them all! Pick up the guide at the Tourism Centre or the Town Hall!

Don’t you just love a good book? Check out the best ones at the Carleton Place Library! With its cozy atmosphere and comfy chairs, you’ll be there for hours!
